That would make sense. So like painting over the bakes in photoshop and the like? That's too bad, because there's a lot of maps that get generated so that's 4 times the work.
Is it possible to still generate good AO and other maps from an object-space normal map? If so, then you only have to clean up one map, right?
it depends really, you can separate the pieces and bake the ao this way - but you loose out on a few important shadows. Theres multiple ways to attack it but im still yet to find a way that actually works fast and clean.
Yeah, AO is really my concern, since you can break up a model for normal maps and not miss out on anything. It may be possible to explode a model to do a detail AO, and then generate a simple AO from the lowpoly combined mesh, and just overlay that. It just might do the trick, but I'll have to try it myself. Not that I'll have the chance to try for a while since I'm doing environments this project.
